  Bruce J. Hillman, MD, FACR
Chief Scientific Officer


As the acting Chief Scientific Officer for ACR Image Metrix, Dr. Bruce Hillman is also chair and principal investigator of the American College of Radiology Imaging Network (ACRIN). He has authored or co-authored more than 145 studies appearing in every major medical publication and has been selected Who's Who in Medicine and Healthcare and Who's Who in the World.

As the Theodore E. Keats Professor of Radiology and professor of health evaluation sciences at the University of Virginia, Hillman has received 22 grants as principal investigator or co-investigator, including the National Cancer Institute (NCI) $23 million UO-1 award that led to the founding of ACRIN in 1999. To date, ACRIN has received more than $192 million in grant funding.

Hillman is former editor-in-chief of Investigative Radiology (through 1995) and Academic Radiology (successor journal), and a recipient of the George C. Marshall Memorial Fund Fellowship and the John A. Hartford Foundation Fellowship, and a Pew Memorial Trust Fellowship honoree.

Among the research, education and mentoring programs developed by Hillman are the Introduction to Research Program sponsored by RSNA, the American Roentgen Ray Society and Association of University Radiologists (AUR).

He helped develop the Picker-AUR Young Faculty Academic Development Program and the General Electric-AUR Radiology Research Academic Fund.

Hillman is a member of the ACR Board of Chancellors and a fellow of the American College of Radiology. He is also an honorary member of the Society of Computer Applications in Radiology and received the AUR gold medal.
